Press Statement
Issued by CARIBwhale Inc
Friday, June 13th 2008
CARIBwhale Inc would like to congratulate the Government of Dominica on choosing to abstain from supporting an overturn of the ban on commercial whaling at the 60th International Whaling Commission meeting in Santiago Chile. We support the decision that commercial whaling is not in the best interest of Dominica. Whaling is cruel, unsustainable and unnecessary. Commercial whaling would indeed be inconsistent with the environmental practices that maintain Dominica as the Nature Island of the Caribbean. Furthermore, as an organization, we feel that whaling is incompatible with the core business of our membership, i.e. whale watching. CARIBwhale Inc embraces this forward movement by the Prime Minister, Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit and the Government of Dominica and encourages such progressive action in the future. Let us be the leaders in taking this first step in the right direction. Our actions can influence the other islands to unite in conserving these intelligent, sentient animals deserving and needing our protection.
